Sales Tax

  • Statewide: None
  • Municipalities can levy sales tax of no more than 9.50%.
  • Current average sales tax (with local taxes included): 1.8%
  • Gasoline Tax: 27.35 cents/gallon (Includes all state, local and federal taxes)
  • Diesel Fuel Tax: 33.35 cents/gallon (Includes all state, local and federal taxes)

Personal Income Tax

  • Alaska has no personal income tax.

Property Tax

  • Local municipalities average 1.14% of the property's assessed value.
  • Assessed Value: Fair market value each year; inspection cycle cannot occur more often than every six years.
  • Relief programs for:
    • 65 and over/If over 60 Surviving Spouse: Exempt from first $150,000 of assessed value.
    • Disabled Veterans/If over 60 Surviving Spouse: Exempt from first $150,000 of assessed value with service-connected disability of 50% or more.
  • Personal Property Tax: Yes. Rates and exemptions vary.
  • Property Tax Comments: A municipality may not levy a property tax in excess of 3% unless voted on by taxpayers. Additional optional property tax exemptions can be enacted at the municipal level. Relief programs in Alaska are not mandated by the state.
